Canyons Online 9-12 is a proud participant in Utah’s Statewide Online Education Program (SOEP). This program was established by the 2011 Utah Legislature to help eligible students earn credit toward high school graduation via publicly-funded online courses. Beginning with the 2016-17 school year, Utah students may replace up to six (6) of their traditional, face-to-face course credits with six course credits earned online. Upon request, the State Board of Education may also allow the student to enroll in online courses for more than six online credits if the online courses better meet the academic goals of the student.
A student may enroll in an online course at any time during a calendar year. A student may alter a course schedule at his/her primary school by dropping a traditional classroom course and adding an online course consistent with course schedule alteration procedures adopted by the student’s primary school of enrollment deadline for dropping and adding traditional courses. Regardless, online courses must be recorded in each student’s College and Career Readiness Plan, and require the signature of a counselor and parent/guardian. Downloading the Frequently Asked Questions and viewing the Utah Administrative Code that defines the Statewide Online Education Program can provide guidance for you in understanding program specifics.
Please Note: Students participating through the Statewide Online Education Program (SOEP) must meet our Minimum Standard of Active Participation, which means that SOEP students must make meaningful progress in each course at least every 10 days. Students who fail to meet the Canyons Online Standard of Active Participation will be exited from the course, and may be at risk of losing work and/or progress in the course.
